Elaine’s career in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Bucknell University has included teaching Scene Design, Visual Style, Mask and Makeup Design, and numerous Arts Residential College seminars. Designing scenic environments for theatre and dance each semester, her portfolio spans classical to contemporary work.
An Affiliated Artist with the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, she has collaborated on numerous productions including original works. Featured on this website are Gunpowder Joe, Hard Coal: Life in the Region, and Whispering to Horses (scene and puppet design). The Alexandria Carry-On, created in collaboration with Laurie McCants and Theo Bleckmann, toured to Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the new library of Alexandria, Egypt. Industrious Angels played at the Ko Festival, Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, and other venues.
Elaine has designed original plays and adaptations from literary works at the Center for Puppetry Arts including Frankenstein (produced for the Cultural Olympiad of the Centennial Olympics), Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Frank: Within and Without (UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence) and Stellaluna.
Elaine designed puppets and scenery for Georgia’s official folk life play, Swamp Gravy: The Big Picture.
Additional regional theatre designs include Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, Horizon Theatre, and Theatre in the Square as well as national touring productions for Stage One: The Louisville Children’s Theatre.
She holds a M.F.A. from University of Georgia in scenography and a B.A. in studio art/art history and theatre from Agnes Scott College.
